Basic Course Components:

DASHBOARD:

Once you create your member login information you’ll be directed to a Course Dashboard. This serves as a content directory and progress map. As you advance through the lesson plans and scenario you can chart your progress. You can always come back here to get oriented.

LESSONS:

The course features four lessons designed to prepare you for the course scenario. Watch the video and review the supporting materials.  Check the resource section for downloads and links to relevant subject matter.

SCENARIO-BASED TRAINING:

You can get a great deal from watching the video of Doug flying the course scenario.  But you can do more.  Fly it yourself on your home sim or at a flight school with a more advanced aviation training device. Go further and fly the scenario on the PilotEdge network. Record your flights and then upload the files into CloudAhoy to evaluate your sim flight.  Share your flight files at the community forums.

COMMUNITY FORUMS:

Everyone is welcome at the Community Aviation Slack team but as a course member you’ll have access to the private channel, #art-flying-ifr. We encourage you to join this forum right away. For more social interaction you can also join the ‘Art of Flying IFR’ course group on Facebook.

TECHNOLOGY PARTNERS:

We've got friends in the industry who are as excited about flying as we are and who bring some great technology to the table.

PILOTEDGE provides the realism of air traffic control to flight simulation.  But it contributes more to the learning environment than jut virtual ATC services.  You're on stage.  What you say, how you fly and the choices you make when you're on the network matter.

CLOUDAHOY is a personal flight debriefing tool that can be used as effectively with simulation software as in the airplane.  It generates a multi-dimensional record that you can use to evaluate your scenario flight.

MINDSTAR AVIATION develops software for aircraft systems and avionics used professional and home flight simulation devices using Lockheed Prepar3D or Microsoft FSX. Their product line includes the G1000, GNS 430/530, Avidyne Entegra, KAP 140 and other more advanced units.

REALNAV is a database built upon the navigation data produced by aviation authorities worldwide and gathered by Lufthansa Systems.  It contains real world global information about airports, runways, enroute and terminal waypoints, VHF navaids, airways, instrument approaches (including WAAS), departure procedures (SID's), arrival procedures (STAR's), and airspace frequencies.
