Idaho Safety Stand Down and Pilot Proficiency Clinic: May 19-21
We were pleased to work with the Idaho Division of Aeronautics this year to highlight the importance of recurrent training. The focus was on safety and proficiency. The weekend began with a Friday evening meetup sponsored by SAFE at the Collins Hangar on Dauntless Place at the Caldwell Airport. We had about twenty-five (25) attendees and went though several pizzas as we watched airplanes and helicopters land and depart at KEUL. The Saturday Safety Stand Down was well attended with over a hundred folks in the audience. Some of the highlights of the day were Tim Steffen's "Spikey Death Traps" presentation, Rich Stowell's "Energy Management", the Mission Aviation Fellowship's training regimen and TVCC's Redbird flight simulator that was open to anyone that wanted to get their hands on some custom exercises and scenarios. Lunch was sponsored by Avemco Insurance. Sunday was the culmination of a Learn-Do-Fly weekend. Several pilots gathered at Air-O-Drome to fly simulation missions on the full motion Redbird MCX flight sim. Mission exercises and scenarios were developed specifically for the weekend clinic with several related directly to knowledge content shared at the Saturday Stand Down. We're already looking forward to more clinics in the Treasure Valley area.
