You’re enroute to Montrose, CO (KMTJ) for a 3 day summer hiking trip.  You're living the general aviation dream of flying into a local airport instead of schlepping from DEN.

The weather has been spectacular thus far but now you can’t help but notice that you’re VFR over the top.  A quick check of the AWOS tells the story, it’s 800 overcast with 2 miles visibility.

It’s probably time to pick up a clearance with Denver Center and shoot the ILS there. The field elevation is no joke at nearly 5,800 ft. Good luck, we’re all counting on you.

SAFE and NAFI instructors will be glad to help you prep or debrief if you have any questions.
