IFR SCENARIO #2

 Here Comes the Weather

ATC_Icons_copy.png

Just when you thought it was safe to be back in the system the weatherman throws you a curveball.  You will need to be on your game because the weather at your destination is IFR with a 600 foot ceiling and 1 ½ mile visibility.  Lateral guidance is available inbound on the approach but step downs and an offset approach course will keep you busy!

Your destination is John Wayne Airport (KSNA) and PilotEdge controllers will give you the LDA approach to 20R.  Plan to pick up vectors from an airborne position northwest of the airport and make a full stop landing to complete the mission.  After crossing TUSTI, you’ll descend through two step-downs before breaking out and maneuvering to land.

You’ll be challenged to stay ahead of the airplane and keep your scan up as the workload grows.  Don’t forget about that runway offset as you anticipate the sight picture!

SAFE and NAFI instructors will be glad to help you prep or debrief if you have any questions.
